1. Acceptance of Terms
By adding StudySteve to your Discord server or using its commands in a direct message, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please remove the bot and discontinue use.
These Terms apply to all users of the Service, including free-tier and Premium subscribers. We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Description of Service
StudySteve ("the Bot", "the Service") is a Discord bot that helps students track assignments, run study timers, record grades, and access AI-powered study tools. The Service is operated by Devin Hickman ("we", "us", "our").
The Service is offered in two tiers:
- Free tier — assignment tracking, study timers, and basic grade logging.
- Premium tier — all free features plus AI-powered explanations, quiz generation, flashcards, study planning, equation rendering, molecule viewer, grade screenshot analysis, and syllabus import.
3. Premium Subscription
Premium features are available for a subscription fee of $5.00 USD per month. Subscriptions are processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing, you agree to Stripe's Services Agreement.
Billing: Your subscription renews automatically each month. You authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.
Cancellation: You may cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you retain access until then.
Refunds: All subscription fees are non-refundable except where required by applicable law. If you experience a technical issue preventing access to Premium features, contact us and we will make it right.
4. User Responsibilities
By using the Service you agree to:
- Provide accurate information when subscribing (including your Discord User ID).
- Keep your Discord account secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- Use the Service only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes.
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy the Service.
- Not use the Service to harass, harm, or defraud others.
5. Acceptable Use
The following activities are strictly prohibited:
- Using AI features to generate content that violates Discord's Terms of Service or Community Guidelines.
- Attempting to circumvent the Premium paywall through any technical means.
- Sharing, selling, or redistributing your Premium access to other users.
- Submitting abusive, illegal, or harmful content through any bot command.
- Using the bot for spam, automated scraping, or any purpose that places excessive load on the Service.
We reserve the right to suspend or permanently ban any user who violates these terms without refund.
6. AI-Generated Content
Premium features use the OpenAI API to generate educational content. By using these features you acknowledge that:
- AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or outdated information.
- AI responses should not be treated as professional academic, medical, or legal advice.
- You are responsible for verifying AI-generated information before relying on it.
- Your prompts may be processed by OpenAI in accordance with their Privacy Policy.
7. Availability and Changes
We aim to keep StudySteve available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, Discord outages, or circumstances outside our control.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. If we discontinue the Service entirely, Premium subscribers will receive a pro-rated refund for unused subscription time.
8. Intellectual Property
StudySteve, including its code, design, and documentation, is owned by Devin Hickman. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.
Content you submit (assignment titles, notes, grades) remains yours. You grant us a limited licence to store and process it solely to provide the Service.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Devin Hickman shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service — including lost study time, missed deadlines, or reliance on AI-generated content.
Our total aggregate liability for any claims shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Minnesota, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Minnesota.
